Last weekend
the Fieldhouse was well represented at the first big qualifier of
the year
in the Metro Detroit area. NARCh held a regional for Silver and Club
level teams out at TRH in Novi on March 6th - 8th.
In the 10 & Under division Team Little Caesars Fieldhouse played
three solid games in their round robin but fell just short in making
the playoffs. They lost to the eventual tournament champions, RBK
98's, just 4-3 in their first game. After suffering a tough 5-3 loss
in their second game they came out firing in their last contest
winning 8-1. Defenseman Joey Abraham was selected to represent the
division as part of the NHL Junior All Stars. The team
consisted of individual open and house players that wanted to
experience NARCh hockey. The team was coached by Matt Koleski and
Scooter Czaiczynski and consisted of:
Joey Abraham, Brendan Berryman, Courtney Gateman, Aaron Walny, Logan
Ganfield, Clayton Pickard, Adam Rissman, Dominic Najjar, Rafael
Sterbyci, and goaltender Maggie Hawkins.
The 12 & Under division saw both east side participants meet up in
the championship, the Mustangs and Storm Brewing. The two teams tied
earlier in the tourney and would lock horns again in the final. AT
the end of regulation they were tied again. Midway through the extra
session Nolan Bianchi picked up a loose puck at the red line and
skated in all alone to light the lamp and become the instant hero.
Watch out for both these squads this Summer at the NARCh Finals in
Mississauga, Ontario this July.
In the 14 & Under division the Fieldhouse once again combined
players from throughout
house and open and put together what proved to be the tournament
champs. Little Caesars Fieldhouse was led the whole weekend by the
strong play on the blue line from
Austin Gateman and Dalton Czaiczynski. They took the final over the
Wildcats by a score of 6-4. Czaiczynski scoredthe games' first 4
goals and was game MVP. Gateman and Kurt Thiele both were selected
to the NHL Junior All Stars. Other members of the team besides
Gateman, Czaiczynski, and Thiele were: Steven Rhodes, Matt Byron,
Jeffrey VanBuhler, Andrew Piwonski, Kurt Lettang, and goaltender
Ryan Guzek. Koleski and Czaiczynski coached this team as well.
The Motor City Moose 92/93 squad was the lone east side team in the
16 & Under division and played three good games but fell short on
their playoff bid. The had lost just 4-2 to the Patriots, tourney
champs, in round robin play. As this team continues to play together
they should be a force to be reckoned with in any upcoming
tournament.
In April the Fieldhouse plans to hold some informal skates for any
player that would
like to play NARCh hockey. We will attempt to form teams that will
play in our NARCh Regional over Memorial Day weekend and then travel
to Mississauga, Ontario for the Finals in July.
